Make a little birdhouse in your soul

Dscf0025_1
Buddy and I were leaving for school the other morning and caught a glimpse of this in the backyard. Luckily, I was able to snap a couple of shots before it flew away. This sort of bird is definately not native to Hawaii. Buddy insisted it had to be a Serinus flaviventris, but given the small head and large tummy I was certain it was a Serinus buchanani. Mochi thought it looked delicious.

That afternoon we searched the internet and finally found it in this book. It is an Amigurumis canaria, native to Japan. What we can't figure out is how such a chubby bird was able to fly all the way over here?

How luck you and Buddy are to have spotted her! She's a lovely specimen. She can nestle in the palm of my hand anytime!

she's adorable! i love chubby birds...should have paid attention in japanese class, then maybe i would be able to have a little bird at my house.

She is so beautiful! So fat and chubby I want to force feed her seeds!

How adorable! And I LOVE that birdhouse song--I'll be singing it for days now! ;)

WOW! It must be tired!

"Not to put too fine a point on it, say I'm the only bee in your bonnet."

Yay! A great title for a great post - such an adorable little bird. Love it - and such cute photos too!

That is is very cute bird! I hope to find one of those up Old Pali Road :)

Very cute! I think one of those needs to fly my way around Easter basket time...my daughter would be smitten.

"Blue (Yellow) bird of friendliness! Like guardian angels it's always near!"

I love chubby birds!

she must be stocking up for the winter, but i have to say that i think the chubby tummy is fetching. love the tmbg reference. have you thought of a career in wildlife photography? you are quite good! :)

oh it's adorable! and the fact that you put in a They Might Be Giants refrence just makes it all the better.

:)

I didn't realize those birds were migratory! :) SO cute- you're making me start to consider picking up those crochet needles again.

ditto aimee roo...!

i love your amigurumis canaria!

:) I love that song. Now I have to go pop the CD in!
And I love the birdy! It's one on my To Do list :D I even have the pattern copied out so I don't have to lug my book around!

you are a keen bird watcher-

Ohhh cute pollito :)..

I love how you introduce these little creations of yours. ;)

Oh, I wish it would keep flying all the way to Sacramento! I would love to hold it in my hand! I promise I would keep the cats away!

Song stuck in head....:)

Very, very cute! :)
And I love the plumerias in the other photo -- oh I wish I could smell them. . . they remind me of my grandma!

I wish we had those around NH!!

Myra - you've outdone yourself or what ever it is calld. The bunnys, Lani and Bitsy, are adorable! I love love love them! A bit like a hello kitty, and with a bunny toy! And the tweet bird is gorgeous too!
