Here's my first ever submission to Loobylu's Month of Softies. This month's theme was "June Bug" so I made this little firefly. As fireflies or 'hotaru' are synonymous with summer in Japan, this seemed appropriate for the theme. It's made from felt, and the yellow pompom is supposed to be the light.
I haven't made a pompom in years and it was fairly time consuming to trim it down evenly. I'd end up cutting too much in one place and then too little in another and it quickly started whittling down in diameter. Good thing I don't cut Buddy's hair. The pattern for the hotaru came from one of my old Japanese craft books, by the same author as this one.
I didn't have enough time to finish my Tie One On "Home on the Range" submission last night, but I I'm determined to complete it, even if it's late and I just show it here. I've seen so many cool aprons so far, I can't wait to see the gallery.

What a great little hotaru! I love it. The eyes are fantastic. (Your light pompom looks great) I really really love it!

I'm surprised to hear that this is your first official MOS entry, you've done so many great softies! I think this is adorable. Do you use the Clover pom pon maker? I'm having a spat with my pp-maker, and I want a new/different one.

Love the June bug! Everyone is coming up with such fun and different takes on the subject! I, too, did not finish my apron (except in my head!), so I commiserate with you.
