My first ami in quite a while. Just gleaming the cube with Stan.

Bitty Bunka Baby

Lil mochi bunka baby

I spent the weekend making this little cloth 2-inch bunka doll with bendable/posable arms and legs. Now my eyes are shot, but it was totally worth it because I'm quite fond of her. Although I do think her dress came out a bit too big and I just noticed that the top of her bonnet wasn't flipped up properly when I took the pic.

Oh well, it's just nice to post something for a change!

I heart Thao

Trying to get back into the posting mode. Back soon. I hope.

PS. Loooove.

Coraline Mystery Box Swap - closing notes

Thanks to all the participants of the Coraline swap! If you haven't already checked out the flickr group, go and take a look. There are so many incredible boxes of Coraline goodness, I wish I had been able to join in on the swap too. In the end I just didn't have the time to make a box, but if was really fun hosting!

On a last note, if you signed up for the swap and still haven't received a box, please email me at coralineswap (at) yahoo (dot) com and I'll follow up with your sender. And if you haven't posted pictures of the box you received, please head over to the flickr group and do that too. I'm sure your sender is anxious to hear that you received your box and it's nice to have all the box pics together in one spot.

Thanks again!

Coraline Box Swap Housekeeping

Another quick post regarding the swap. I hope everyone's boxes are coming along, please remember you have a little over a week to finish up. Don't forget boxes must be posted/mailed no later than Monday March 16, 2009. You are responsible for all postage costs to mail your box to your recipient.

Please be sure to include the following with your box:

  • 2-3 Coraline inspired objects. At least 2 of the items must be handmade
  • an envelope with a letter inside the box to the recipient with a short description of its contents
  • two small black buttons (these do not count as the 2-3 objects)
  •  your assigned number must be displayed on the outside of your box

We have 44 eligible swappers participating in the swap so you can number your box ___ of 44 if you desire.  One of the swappers also provided a cool downloadable tag here for use with your box.

Can't wait to see the finished boxes!

Coraline Mystery Box Swap - Flickr group

Just a quick post to let all the Coraline swappers know that they can start posting WIP pictures of their mystery boxes and contents if they so desire, by joining the Coraline Mystery Box Swap flickr group.

The group is limited to swappers only and you need a flickr account to join (it's free to create one if you don't currently have an account). Go to the group page once you've created your account and click on the join button.

Thanks!

(Added: I've changed the photo upload limit from 5 photos to unrestricted so people can post as many photos as they like. Please be sure to label your photos as WIP (works in progress) or if it's pics of the box you've received, please label it by box number and then a description. Eg. Box #5 - inside of box)

Coraline Mystery Box Swap - is on!

Sorry for not getting back about the swap sooner, but work keeps getting in the way. Okay, so I guess there's interest in the swap - so let's do it! Please read the following carefully before you decide to sign up.

CORALINE MYSTERY BOX SWAP - SIGN UP DETAILS AND RULES:

  • Sign up begins Monday February 16 - Noon (Hawaii time)
  • Sign ups will be by email only, no comment sign ups, email address for sign ups to be provided on the 16th.
  • Limited to only 50 participants. Sign ups will close once I get 50 eligible participants.
  • You must have a blog to participate (Sorry but myspace and/or facebook accounts are not eligible).
  • You will only send one box and you will be responsible for all shipping costs.
  • You must be willing to ship by airmail and possibly airmail internationally.
  • You will not be receiving a box from the same person you are sending a box to. And you will not know who you will receive a box from.
  • You must take 3-4 photos of the box you receive and add it to a flickr group for the swap. This is important as it helps me keep track of the boxes that were sent and we get to see all the boxes in one place.
  • You must be contactable by email.

SWAP TIMELINE/DEADLINES:

  • Participants will be notified by February 20th.
  • You must post/mail your Coraline box no later than Monday March 16.

SWAP AND BOX DETAILS:

  • This swap is for a Coraline Mystery Box inspired by the 50 boxes sent to select bloggers. However, this swap will be for boxes on a smaller scale.
  • You must fill your box with 2-3 Coraline inspired objects. At least 2 of the items must be handmade.
  • Boxes should be sturdy, but not necessarily made of wood. Cigar or papier mache boxes are perfectly acceptable. Remember you are responsible for all shipping costs to send your box so keep that in mind when selecting your box.
  • You must line the bottom of your box with red velvet (red velour is okay) and catalog the items you are sending with paper and pushpins. Refer to the original Coraline boxes here for examples.
  • You must include an envelope with a letter inside the box to the recipient with a short description of its contents. Again refer to the original Coraline boxes.
  • You must include two small black buttons in your box. These do not count as the 2-3 objects.
  • You will be assigned a number between 1-50 for your box and your assigned number must be displayed on the outside of your box.

IMPORTANT:

Please think long and hard about your availability to participate in the swap. If for any reason you don't think you'll be able to make the time to create and send a box within the time line listed above, PLEASE DON'T SIGN UP FOR THE SWAP. It's extremely disappointing and disheartening when people don't come through for a swap, especially when it takes so much time to organize and the majority of people play fair and stick to the rules. Please note that I can't be held responsible for people not sending their boxes and/or the contents.

So I think that's it. If you have any questions, please leave a comment and I'll address it in this post.

Thanks everyone for all the interest!

QUESTIONS:

Q: Are Livejournal accounts eligible, or just places like blogspot and typepad?

Q: In order to sign up, do we need to have a Typepad blog? I have a blog, but it's Blogger/Blogspot, and I really want to participate (got some great ideas for the project).

A: Blogger/Blogspot, Livejournal are eligible as long as you have an active blog.

Q: Are 2-D things okay? I do sculpt, and I'd definitely make a 3-d thing *too*, but I'd like to know that a drawing/painting would be cool as well...

A: 2-D objects such as drawings/paintings are fine as long as they are inspired by the movie and/or book and fit into your box.

Coraline Mystery Box Swap

Coralinelogo

Donna of Purple Kappa was nice enough to mention in a comment on my last post that the Coraline makers sent mystery boxes to 50 lucky bloggers. You can view the contents of many of the boxes here and here.

Oh how I wish I could have got one of those boxes but who says I can't still get a Coraline box just not from the movie makers themselves? So I was thinking, and this is very preliminary thinking, but maybe a Coraline Mystery Box Swap might be fun? The movie doesn't even come out until February 6th so this is really premature, and I really don't have the time right now, but here's sort of what I have in mind if we did it and there was enough interest:

1) 50 swappers to create 50 Coraline inspired boxes, but on a much smaller scale.

2) You must fill the box with several Coraline inspired objects. You don't need to see the movie to participate but you must at least familiarize yourself with the movie by viewing the trailer and looking at the movie website.

3) You must line the bottom of your box with red velvet and catalog the items you are sending with paper and pushpins. Refer to the Coraline box link for samples of the original boxes.

4) You must include an envelope with a letter inside the box to the recipient with a short description of its contents.

5) You must include two small black buttons in your box.

6) All the boxes will be numbered and your assigned box number should be attached to the outside of the box.

7) You will need to post pictures of your box on your blog when you receive it.

8) You will send and receive only one box and you will be responsible for all postage costs for the box you send.

9) You will not be receiving a box from the same person you are sending a box to. And you will not know who you will receive a box from.

10) You must have a blog to participate.

I''m thinking that small papier mache boxes, cigar boxes or even small toy hat boxes that you buy at the craft store might be the best way to go because they are lightweight for shipping but still sturdy and inexpensive. Anyway, like I said, just some preliminary thoughts.

Leave me a comment if you might be interested. Please note I'm not signing people up right now, this is still something I'm just considering.

THE SWAP HAS ENDED - THANKS!!
